Launch of Inclusive and Sustainable Well-being in Korea

Duration : 01:34:33 | Date : Apr 22, 2026

2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Korea’s membership of the OECD. Korea’s journey to OECD membership was characterised by a period of remarkable socio-economic transformation between the mid-1960s and mid1990s, and in the three decades since then it has continued to move forward, becoming a global reference point for technological and cultural innovation. This webinar marked the launch of the report Inclusive and sustainable well-being in Korea: 30 years of OECD membership and future policy opportunities which assesses whether Korea’s remarkable economic growth of recent decades has translated into more inclusive and sustainable wellbeing for Korean people, through the lens of the OECD Well-being Framework. It also highlights three interconnected opportunities for strengthening inclusive, sustainable well-being outcomes in Korea: supporting young Koreans’ ability to thrive in their transition from education to economic independence; promoting good mental health and social connectedness across the life course; and addressing the social and structural barriers hindering gender equality. In this webinar, a presentation of key messages from the report will be accompanied by insights from Korean experts, as well as relevant good practice examples from OECD member countries on promoting mental health and social connectedness and fostering youth participation in decision-making. The seminar was part of a half-day programme celebrating Korea’s 30th anniversary of OECD membership and was preceded by Opening remarks and statements from the OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann and the Korean Ambassador to the OECD as well as a session on “Korean Economy, past 30 years and the future” organised by the OECD Economics Department.
